Night Shade: Out of Reach is a game that’s quite like Santa Rush in gameplay. You’re a Ninja on the run. You have to stay ahead of enemies that are after your head while dodging obstacles and taking out enemies on your path. So far it’s quite like Santa Rush, but this is where it becomes different.
Instead of the game automatically speeding up every X seconds, the game will keep running at the same speed and you’re the one who can speed it up if you want. If you want to go at it at full speed from the beginning, you’re free to do so. If you want to start slower because you’re still a beginner at the game, you can simply keep walking rather slowly. Yet, you can’t keep walking slow for ever. You’re being chased and your enemies get frustrated if they can’t keep up with you. So with every checkpoint you pass, your enemies will increase their speed. To stay ahead, so should you. Yet, the interesting thing is that you can chose to vary your speed, so you can slow it down again once you’re satisfied with the distance you created between you and the approaching enemies.
Now in Santa rush you could dodge by jumping and sliding and you could throw snow balls at your enemies. In this game you can dodge by jumping, rolling and diving through obstacles. You can defeat your enemies by throwing a shuriken or by close combat using your knife.
In the image above you are displayed at the 1. An obstacle that was just dodged by rolling is displayed at the 2 and an enemy on your path is displayed the 3. An approaching enemy is displayed at 4. The indicator at the top right of the screen at 5 indicates that the enemy boat is closing in, so it would be wise to increase the game speed. The indicators at 6 show that there still is 80% of the health left and that there are 9 shuriken remaining. The score is displayed right next to it which is currently 224.
The image above shows another new and relatively unique concept of this game. Apart from running and killing you get to do some stunting. The image displays a looping that you can choose to challenge. Once you approach such a special object the big A will show in the center of the screen. To challenge the "quick-time event" press the A on your keyboard. This activates the event and you will see yourself running into the looping. During the event new assignments will show as keys that you have to press. You need to press the key displayed quickly, if you’re too slow or press the wrong key you fail the event, drop out and you lose some health. But don’t worry it won’t be a lot. Taking such an event will grant you extra points from collecting coins.
There’s still a bit more to the game in that there are also road splits. When you approach such a split you can choose which path to take. Keep in mind that the upper path is the tougher one. To get more intel on how the game works I really recommend you to do the quick tutorial. It’s easy, doesn’t take a lot of time and it’s rather painless, but it will definitely increase your feel for the game.
Oh and don’t forget that there are challenges you can complete
