I made it to Night 8 before I discovered you could switch to the Sniper HUD.

After that it became a lot easier. A bit repeatative though and the game saves by itself, so after loading you usualy have to setup all the soldiers again.

Took a break after mission 13, but dont think difficulty will rise much higher after that, so maybe Ill play on another time.

Understandable. To some people the campaign may be experienced as a bit easy. Even though it gets harder the farther you get, if you play well you still cancel that out.

The main reason for it is to make the campaign accessible to anyone. It's a way to learn how to play the game and you're not immediately punished for every little mistake you make. It's a complete different story in competition mode though so I'd really suggest you to try that one. It's a lot less repetitive because it's harder and things change faster.

You definitely can't make it to Night 8 without sniping in competition mode wink

maybe this is because there is no night 8 in competition mode. but what am i telling you. you are the programmer of the game :-)

i admit thought that the main part of the scentence was correct. you will certainly loose on second day if you dont fire a bullet with your own rifle

the one and only vanguard competition finisher ;-)

ahh yes, sorry. I presumed he meant the campaign mode, because he was talking about getting past level 4.

Tried out Competition mode now, more difficult. Lost at end of third day. One level more or less on the right Soldier can be the deciding factor for winning or loosing.

Even though I shouldnt had wasted my bullets for the first 12 Enemies on the third night, noticed the Score Multiplier is capped at 9 anyway. ^^

All in all a very nice game. After my first try I would say competition is very well doable until day 4, if you use your bullets on the proper targets.

Still I think another level system for the soldiers would be suitable for competition mode. Its rather hard to get exactly 1 level up for each enineer, and what kind of Soldiers/weapons you get also adds a randomness to the mode, which makes your potential score limit too independant of your own actions.

For example finding mainly Rifleman/Bazookas and axes limits your performance to such a high degree, that you have no influence on the outcome of a game.
Aside from the frustration that a perfectly good start might be ruined by that randomness factor, the game idea and game design are one of the best Ive seen so far.

Reminds me a lot of Invasion, but in comparison to all those 08/15 defence game clones that are so common the idea and game design are really awesome.

Kind regards, Skel

Thanks for that review Skeltek. The reason why I chose to make those things random is because that might give you the kind of frustration that makes you replay the game. I am afraid that if I'd make those things less random and let you choose what to look for, every game you play with the same tactic would end up with almost the exact same results.

You really have to be very unlucky to get all tools and no guys from searching for weapons. The chance of getting a "good" weapon is about 50%. Whether the weapon is good or not will of course depend on the soldiers you have and the type of weapons you need. Yet quite a few soldiers that you can find already start with a weapon in stock so that increases your chance of getting the right weapons for your soldiers.

Luck does influence your performance to a high degree, yet far from as much as skill and tactics. Even with bad luck you can still get quite a good score if your tactics are good and if you snipe effectively and efficiently.

Thanks for your positive comments on the game. We tried to make the concept as original as possible for a defense game. Making just another clone would have been a lot easier but a lot less satisfying.

ill tell you that i play this game everynight, just once in the competition mode, and if i feel like doing the campaign for a litle while i will, but what im looking for are some tips, for instance what is the best way to start the campaign, i personally take the Machinegunner Kenny, Pepe the anti-armor, and either Phil the engineer, or ill press my luck with Ryan The Rifleman, what do you guys think is the best way to start out, and what are the best ways to upgrade the sniper and soldiers?
