Hey everyone.

I'd really like to get some feedback on the Vanguard updates. Since a lot has changes some things may be experienced positive and others negative. I'd especially like to know what you think about current game balance.

Is the competition mode too hard? Should it be rebalanced to make the first 3 levels easier or is it alright the way it is?

Do you like the supply box system? If not or if you have some ideas on how to improve how it currently works let us know.

Are the amount of resources you get from gathering and the amount of ammunition and medkits you get from searching enough, too much or too little?

Do you like it that you have to spend some time between missions to reorganize, upgrade your soldiers and restock your supplyboxes or should this be done as automatic as possible? (With automatic I mean that soldier positions on the map are also remembered, that there'll also be a button to auto-balance equipment left over build supply boxes, etc.)

How far did you get and how far do you think you'd get if you'd improve your tactics?

The more feedback we get on the current game the easier it will be to improve it.

Hi,

I think the balance is perfect. If you can't get higher then lvl 5 it's great.

Supply box system works fine, no problems.

I really like the upgrade system for your army to!

No problems were found for me today and yesterday... cool

i got a question about the new range of the soldiers:
in the mission preparation view you see green and red areas of the view of each soldier. how do i have to understand this areas? are the depending on the kind of weapon a soldier is carrying? is the accuracy worse in the red areas?...


the one and only vanguard competition finisher ;-)

Yes it is. The green area is the area that this soldier covers. The red area is the area that it can cover if it absolutely has to but only with a heavy accuracy penalty.

So in general a soldier will not cover the red area for his position unless there's no other target to fire at and if there's no other position available in his bunker at which the enemy does fall in his green range. If the latter is the case he will relocate to that position if it's free.

Only if he cannot relocate and there is no other target to fire at he will try to hit the enemy. This only if that enemy is firing at him.

(It's also explained in the in-game help)

ok for the good and bad :)

Good: greatest flash game ever played SERIOUSLY!!!

so much time has been put into one of the greatest game ive seen on flash. .

loved it seriously graphics gameplay stradegy etc.


Bad:
I found the game kinda boring after i ran out of sniper rounds it was hard for me to help my troops or do anything. . and i found that the rounds started to run very long especcialy when i got to lvl 5 and plus

Others: (not bad or good)

the game was also too hard for me. sniping mortar was the hardest . . i would have to wait for one to pop his head out to shoot while others are already bombing my troops

but having it hard was good :)

Compitition was hard and i think it was good as it is :)

Thanks for the positive feedback!

True that the game does tend to get a bit passive once you've used all your sniper rounds, especially in the levels that take longer to complete. The upcoming updates will not really put a whole lot of change to that, but will affect it to some extent. It will make the management of your troops on the field and placement of your troops more important.

What I can say additionally. If you use up your sniper rounds early in a level it would probably get a bit boring. In that case, try saving them more and focussing your rounds on the enemies that really matter. The mortar troopers are an annoying bunch as they duck and only show their face for a short time, but they are the ones that you should target if you want to last as long as possible. One mortar can do an immense load of damage once it hits your soldiers.

For good and bad..

Good things:
1.Awesome graphic!
2.Good job in soildier's profile/story
3.The supply box works perfectly
4.Beautiful soundtrack in mission setup

Not good things:
1.Very hard to sniper mortar's head when he's covering..
2.Do we have sniper in the division?Except the sniper commander
3.Need more bullet for the sniper commander..
4.The sniper is a bit easy to spotted but please dont make it harder... tongue

Comment about the game:
Awesome strategy defense game!The best game I've ever played before!Nice work guys!Hope you make another defense game like this one and got a lot of weapon of choice.. bigsmile

Thanks! Great to hear you like it. To respond to your points:

The good things:
1. Thank you! It took me a while to make but I wanted to make this game look different from any other defense game. The graphics were a lot of work so I'm really glad to hear you like them.
2. The stories come from Myth's creative mind. I like them a lot too.
3. Good to hear. It was one of those things added to the game in a later stage to let the way you distribute resources influence the game a bit more. Besides that it should add another thing to worry about during the game, thus reducing the chance of getting bored. I hope those goals were achieved ^^.
4. Thanks again here. Though I must say we only selected the track. We found it on the Newgrounds Audio portal and it's from one of the audio artists credited in the Credits section of the game wink (I don't recall which of the three in particular). It has that nice feeling to it that it's not getting annoying easily and that it has a bit of an undertone that refers to an upcoming battle.

The not so good things:
1. True, they are pretty hard to take out at that point. Actually the choice was made to let them be hard to take out. It's kind of the ultimate adversary. You have to spot them early and take them out before they start loading their weapon or you're gonna be fired at with at least 1 projectile. But that's also the reason why I didn't want to make them disappear completely or stay visible completely. They only fire once in a while so it would be too easy to stop them from firing at all if they would remain in plain sight. If they would hide completely, it would become too hard and annoying to spot them. So that's the reason they are the way they are.
2. Nope, you've got the soldiers that fire the rifle. And actually, once you've skilled those up a bit, in particular when you get to the "lucky shot" skill. They're as good as snipers. But yes, you're the only sniper on your side.
3. Even though there's the ability to increase your amount of bullets at skill upgrade, I'm sure you meant that even with that you run out of bullets soon. Well yeah, that kind of was a choice we had to make. If you had more bullets, it would become more easy the moment you start to hit more. Now you have to savor every bullet and not waste them on weak enemies. But yes, if you use your weapon a lot in the initial runs, you're gonna run out of ammo later, which may end up boring the game session.
4.They are aren't they? wink But they're still pretty darn strong. If you don't take them out quickly they're definitely going to hurt your soldiers!

hehe but in missions 15-20 you must choice to kill sniper or mortar because you have run of bullets in 60% progress... in this stage are important riflemans with his prioritize and lucky shot... snipers aren't come to range of MG fire... MG gunners are cool in 5 bunker in the middle... bigsmile

But at least I can shoot the mortar's helmet but sometimes when I was trying to shoot him and it was a hit!But the problem about it is I shot at the tree and then hit the mortar when he was covering... speechless

Yup, that can happen. As long as you haven't upgrade your handling to the max it's possible that even though it looks like you're hitting on your screen you actually mis. But the opposite is also possible, it may look like you mis but you get lucky and actually hit wink

2.I think mortar is like sniper because sniper usually hide at the place we dont accually see untill someone says SNIPER!!
3.I hope you make another game like this one..

Dont know if its bad or good:
1.can you add panzers there?I like challenging games..
2.I recomment you to make sniper a bit harder to spotted.. tongue
